Capital Region History Day

The New York State Museum invites students to participate in the Capital Region History Day on March 24th, 2018. Capital Region History Day is an education program that engages students grades 6-12 in the discovery and interpretation of historical topics. By participating in History Day, students can research topics related to the annual theme and can express themselves creatively through various formats such as exhibits, documentaries, websites, papers, and performances.

The New York State Museum invites students to participate in the annual Capital Region History Day compeition on Saturday March 24th, 2018. National History Day hosts more than half a million students from around the world as they conduct research and interpret historical topics through the lens of an annual theme. Students in grades 6-12 may discover and unveil history's secrets and express what they have learned through on of the five following formats:

  • Exhibits
  • Documentaries
  • Papers
  • Exhibits
  • Performances 


The 2018 National History Day theme is CONFLICT AND COMPROMISE IN HISTORY. Students should visit the National History Day website at www.nhd.org to see how to get started, locate resources for conducting research, and download the NHD rulebook and the 2018 theme book. The national website also has a list of frequently asked questions and exemplary projects from each category.

Capital Region History Day 

The National History Day methodology supports teachers and schools through aligning curriculum and instructional priorities with current education standards, while preparing students for college and career readiness.

National History Day was awarded the prestigious 2011 National Humanities Medal by President Barak Obama.

Capital Region History Day Judge Registration

Thank you for agreeing to judge this years Capital Region History Day. This year's theme is Conflict & Compromise in History. 


With the exception of papers & websites, final assignments will be handed out on contest day. We will be in touch closer to the contest day with directions, arrival times, this year's theme sheet, as well as judges criteria.
